child-ness nurtures and all pretence stifles and kills
only a child
can see that smile
only a child
can say those words;
only a child
can reach that land
only a child
can laugh that way;
only a child
can wear that crown
only a child
can dance to the moon’s delight
only a child can jump
and not hurt the earth
oh so be a child
or stop all pretence;
for child-ness nurtures
and all pretence stifles and kills

only a child
can leap to space
only a child
can sit on the sun
only a child
can talk with no deceit
only a child
can go where no others can;
only a child
can be happy always
only a child
can create the universe
only a child
can judge at the end of time
only a child
can live in fullness;
only a child
can sing better than the birds
only a child
can teach the angels
only a child
can walk across planets
only a child
can mother others
and yet be nursed
oh so be a child
or stop all pretence;
for child-ness nurtures
and all pretence stifles and kills
