the tree grows everyday

the world can first tire you, physically, exhaust you
draw out red drops out of every pore
even from 2 am, and keep you going, going, going
mercilessly, without emotion -
until the ordinary cries, pleads: enough; enough;
but the strong continue; you will continue
because first tiring you it can force you into a corner,
exhausted, beaten, wizened and scared…
until the ordinary cries, pleads: enough; enough;
but the strong continue; you will continue
you will march, you will walk, you will sing
and at 6pm, the world admits its defeat,
and yet it is no one’s
defeat one wants,
just a quiet peace for all;
and while the ordinary is broken, the resilient smiles
not gloating, but smiles
for that is the nature of the strong;
and at 6.30pm, with the darkness descending, one can stand before
one’s window and look out at the park,
and one notices - ah, that tree that shed its bark and grew new cover,
it’s blooming now,
and it’s swaying ever so gently, ever so gently,
tickling the sky, tickling the sky:
look at me, look at me…smile with me…
the ordinary becomes strong with the tree…
look at me, look at me…smile with me…
each day is new
and each day I grow and I laugh…
the tree grows everyday
