A Woman Comforting a Child Frightened by a Dog
text © Raj Arumugam, May 2008; drawing: Rembrandt c.1636
little child, lovely child
wave hello
this creature is simply curious;
little child, lovely child
do not fear
for the dog just wants to be friends
when we go for a walk
dearest child
so much beauty waits for us;
there are the clear blue sky
and the birds that fly
the leaves that glisten
and the sun that warms your shoulders
when we go for a walk
loveliest child
the world comes to meet us;
neighbor Tom and aunty Mag
and the fresh air, gentle flowers
and butterflies in all their colors
and just before the market
this loving, friendly dog comes to greet us
little child, lovely child
wave hello
this creature is simply curious;
little child, lovely child
do not fear
for the dog just wants to be friends

Just wonderful Sketch and lines to go!
Actually dogs often feel insecured in the company of little children because the child loves to play with the dog and unknowingly may hurt while playing.
Dogs in turn scare children mostly when they have no accompanying adult. A doctor had said this once!

I would show the child the scars I bear from various dog bites, advise the child to never touch the sleeping dog, which nearly took out my eye, and I then I would also ask the dog's owner: where is the leash?

Lovely drawing by Rembrandt accompanied by a sweet poem. Yes, all children should be aware of those things which they should not be afraid of.
Love,
