victim of the moon
text © Raj Arumugam, May 2008; picture: Scholar Gazing at the Moon;Japanese print; Hokusai school, 19th century.

like you, like you I too am become,
you have made me like unto you:
alone, isolated and none close beside;
seduced
starting as
initiated as
admirer of the moon, viewer of moon all nights and
even looking at your pale hanging by day when visible;
lover of the moon, lunar-one, inspired by the moon
speaker in praise of the moon, living in the light of the moon
awakened in the quiet to compose in your light:
shielded in moon rays,
unknowing of the earth and its ways -
O moon goddess, O inspiration
so long have you isolated me, so long have you made me alone
to receive your mind and inspiration,
as grass tips are blessed by your rays
as dark lakes are brightened by your gentleness
so too you found me, took possession of me, inspired me
made me alone in long years
and now, now O cruel, cruel moon
now like you I have become:
seen enough, surrounded by stars
but nothing close enough, no one close enough –
and cruel moon, crazy bitch of a moon
and now you take away inspiration too…to leave me mad in this wilderness and solitude
to howl and cry in loneliness, to be dumb in my desperation,
to grief in desolation..
and you laugh at my predicament…
you have used me, moon -
and now you cast me aside
as a careless woman disposes of her unwanted ornaments
as a wanton Emperor disposes of his eunuch
victim of the moon

pain of being alone can be felt here............its fact every success takes a bit far away.........and finally most of times every successful person has to pay the price......one is alone surrunded but nothing close.....simply adore the poem and its essence.

Hi Raj ji,
it becomes lonely as you tread higher in life..... the number one is always alone na. Just like the moon.
The one who is at top has so many friends but no one is his truecompanion... in the race for materialistic gains, he had come too far to bemates, just like the moon who is surrounded by so many stars but is still alone....... the distance between hearts cannot be merged just by apparent hugs and cheers..... it has to originate from the core of feelings.....
Just like the moon who is so beautiful, but alone , craves for companionship and so is the man who shuns all social and personal relations in the race to be successful, realises in the end that all he acquired was fake as compared to the little joys of life he had sacrificed to attain that fake goal......
great words raj ji
